Andrea Tagliasacchi

Welcome address

Andrea Tagliasacchi, President of the Provincial Government of Lucca, has focused his efforts on strengthening the economy and welfare of the community.  This is done by encouraging the innovation of the business sector, confronting it with high technology as well as overseeing industrial resettlement that respects environmental resources while pursuing economic growth.

Improvements to transport and infrastructures have aimed at facilitating rapid economic development: safety measures on country roads, improved motorway tollbooths and the railway system, as well as improved connections with the airports. Active on the environmental front the First Report on the State of the Environment has been approved. The employment system has been modernised as too citizens' access to information on job opportunities, including a personalized guidance system. Tagliasacchi's Presidency has in particualr focussed on introducing new technologies to the communal service sector:  libraries, archives and museums.

A confirmed supporter of the growth of tourism in the area, President Tagliasacchi has devoted great efforts to the recovery and restoration of cultural heritage.  Aware of culture's fundamental role in the visibility of the area, he supports important festivals of theatre, music, opera and dance.

President Tagliasacchi has stimulated productive relations with associations engaged in the protection of children's rights in international war zones and in areas where terrorism pervades:  Algeria Project (the construction of a nursery for babies orphaned by fundamentalist Islam terrorist attacks); Sierra Leone Project (construction of a school and of a psychological recovery clinic for child soldiers);  Brazil Project (economic support for  International Caritas for Human Aid).  The President has inaugurated the first School of Peace in the province of Lucca.
