Marialina Marcucci
From 1996 to 1998 Marialina lectured international economic policy at the Luiss International Free University in Rome, in the Faculty of Political Science. In June 1997 Ms Marcucci was awarded a decoration of Order of Merit as Commendatore by the President. Since November 2001 she has been a member of the Board of Directors of the British Institute in Florence. At the end of 2001 she founded the Associazione Campus Studi del Mediterraneo in Lucca, a non-profit association promoting experimental learning activities in innovative sectors of Higher Education. Campus works with centres of higher learning, both Italian and foreign, and offers the best opportunities to learn and improve for students of all countries. In May 2002, she was nominated Vice President of “AIWA”, the Arab – Italian Women's Association, whose mission is to promote the mutual knowledge of the Italian and Arab cultures.
HistoryMarialina Marcucci was born in Barga, Tuscany. She obtained a Masters Degree in 1998 at the Sersi Universtiy in Herisau, Switzerland, on “The developments and effects of mass communication”. In 1975 she joined the family business when she launched Elefante, one of the first private television stations in Italy together with her father. In 1984, she founded Videomusic and became President of Beta Television, the company owning the Videomusic trademark. Videomusic was the first European music television station, second in the world, whose 24/7 programming was an immediate success with Italian teenagers. In 1988, Marialina Marcucci was a key figure in the acquisition by Beta Television of the majority share-holding of Super Channel, the Pan European satellite and cable television station. As Managing Director, from 1988 to 1993, Marialina Marcucci transformed the image and direction of the station, revolutionised the Channel's programming and changed the audience target of the Channel to a young-adult European audience speaking English as a second language. In 1993 the network was sold to the American company NBC. Marialina Marcucci, noted for her clarity of vision and pragmatic approach to the competitive International television business environment, was President of Gruppo Marcucci Comunicazione, which grouped together various companies in the television field: ARTES – a publishing company pertaining to both Videomusic and Elefante Tv's News Section; TELEVISUAL specialised in the multimedia and interactivity sectors; SIT – satellite ad ethereal transmissions; SUPER HELLAS – which represented a successful period in the Greek television scene. In 1995 Marialina Marcucci was nominated Vice President of the Tuscan Region and Regional Minister for Culture, Communications and Entertainment. In 1999 following a change within the Regional Government, Marialina Marcucci was confirmed Vice President and nominated Regional Minister of Communications, Tourism, High Technology, Emigration and Investments in Cultural Activities. At the end of her mandate, in May 2000, she returned to being a businesswoman again, founding ULTIMA SRL, a communication and business research company, of which she is Managing Director. From December 2002 to April 2004 she was President of the Board of Directors of Toscana Media Development, a company founded by a group of investors working in Italy and abroad in the fields of communications, entertainment and sport, with the aim of nurturing the development of new production ventures and, at the same time, at promoting them on the national and international market. In April 2001 she became Member of the Board of Directors and in January 2002 President of the Board of L'Unità, the Italian national newspaper on political, economic and cultural issues, which re-launched in 2001 under the direction of Furio Colombo and under the new management company Nuove Iniziative Editoriali, of which Marialina Marcucci is shareholder. |
