CSR in a Tuscan Biscuit Factory
Daniele Scapigliati
Biscottificio Scapigliati is a small factory that bakes biscuits using time-honoured family methods. Some information on the staff, market outlets and main clients will lead to our reasons for choosing to be socially responsible in a small company. Why did we choose to obtain the SA 8000 standard, and what obstacles and advantages have we found? What is the internal path we have taken and how is our relationship with old and new external stakeholders? A project of biscuits produced with Tranfair ingredients earned us the Ethic Award 2004. Does analysis of the costs-benefits show it to be economically worthwhile to obtain a certification standard in social responsibility? How to overcome the limitations of a certification standard?
